For Students- Clinical Rotations
The Animal Neurology Center welcomes veterinary students from both traditional and distributive model schools for clinical rotations. Because the pace of our hospital is fast and highly clinical, we strongly recommend that students complete an academic neurology rotation prior to visiting when possible, as this allows them to gain the most from the experience. Students work closely under the guidance of our neurology residents and participate in real clinical cases, diagnostics, and case discussions. Rotations are offered for a maximum of two weeks. Housing can be arranged for visiting students, and dedicated student housing will be available in the near future.

For Interns and Residents- Clinical Experience
The Animal Neurology Center welcomes veterinary interns who are planning to pursue the neurology residency match for immersive clinical rotations or residents seeking advanced/alternative exposure prior to board examination. House officers work closely with our neurologists and residents, participating in case management, neurologic examinations, advanced imaging interpretation, and clinical decision-making in a fast-paced specialty hospital environment.
We offer exposure to advanced technologies not commonly encountered in traditional training programs, including 3D printing for surgical planning, advanced surgical magnification, and minimally invasive spinal procedures.
A two-week rotation is the minimum requirement for visiting interns. Those seeking a letter of reference from ANC faculty are strongly encouraged to complete a three-week rotation, allowing sufficient time for meaningful clinical interaction and evaluation. Housing can be arranged for visiting interns.

Hybrid Neurology Residency Program (MU / ANC)
The University of Missouri / Animal Neurology Center Hybrid Neurology Residency is a unique training program that combines the strengths of academic medicine with the pace and clinical volume of private specialty practice. Established in 2013 through the partnership of Dr. Fred Wininger and the University of Missouri, the program remains the only hybrid neurology residency of its kind in veterinary medicine. Since its inception, every graduate of the program has successfully become an ACVIM Diplomate in Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Residents benefit from the breadth of a university-based academic environment at MU, paired with the high case volume, clinical pace, and advanced technology of private specialty practice at the ANC. This dual structure provides a comprehensive training experience that prepares residents for both academic and private specialty careers, making it one of the most sought-after neurology residencies in the country.
Residents spend approximately 33% of their clinical training at the ANC and housing is provided while residents are rotating in St. Louis.
Applicants are encouraged to apply through the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program (VIRMP.org). Interviews are offered based on applicant status.

At ANC, education is more than training—it’s a commitment to shaping the next generation of specialists who are ready to grow beyond into leadership roles in veterinary neurology.
